Cambridge English: First
There are different levels of Cambridge English exams. Cambridge First is a high-intermediate exam at CEFR B2 level. It is the gold standard of English language learning; the level to which the majority of students aspire, because employers throughout the world recognise this exam.
Because the examination is based on realistic tasks, a Cambridge First certificate is an important asset for anyone who wants to work or study abroad, or in international business. It indicates sufficient ability in English to be of practical use in clerical, secretarial and managerial jobs in many industries, in particular tourism, where contact with English speakers is required.
Successful candidates will have the ability to deal with routine letters and telephone enquiries, and to cope with some non-academic training courses and some textbooks and articles. They will also have a wide grasp of vocabulary, and will be able to construct an argument and use appropriate communication styles for a variety of situations. They will also have a good awareness of register and of the conventions of politeness and degrees of formality as they are expressed through the English language.
Cambridge English: Advanced
The Cambridge English Advanced exam is at CEFR C1 level. It is the most recognised standard for entry to university on courses in the medium of English, and for those who wish to use English for professional purposes.
Because the examination is based on realistic tasks, it is a valuable qualification for anyone who wants to work or study abroad or to develop a career which requires language skills, including business, medicine, engineering and many other professions.
The exam recognises the ability to communicate with confidence in English and deal with most aspects of everyday life. Successful candidates will have the ability to use the language in practical situations, such as in meetings and discussions, expressing opinions clearly and be able to understand and produce texts of various types, including business letters and reports. They will also be aware of the different styles of English appropriate to those different situations. Success at this level indicates the ability to use English effectively and perform confidently in social and professional situations, and in higher education.
Cambridge English: Proficiency
The Cambridge English Proficiency is the highest level exam for English language learning, at CEFR C2 level. As a consequence, it is recognised by all British universities as proof of the language ability needed to study in English at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Employers throughout the world also recognise the Cambridge English Proficiency exam.
As a result, Cambridge English Proficiency is an invaluable qualification for anyone who wants to work or study abroad. It surely helps you to develop a career which requires language skills, including business, medicine, engineering and many other professions. Cambridge English exam certificates, and specifically the Cambridge English Proficiency, are recognised by institutions of higher education in many other countries.
Most important, gaining this Cambridge English exam certificate demonstrates that learners have progressed beyond a good knowledge of vocabulary and grammar to actually using the language. Holders of this Cambridge English exam certificate are internationally recognised as having achieved a level the equivalent of an average native English speaker and are able to function effectively in almost any English-speaking context. Moreover, successful candidates will also demonstrate an appropriate level of educational and personal maturity.
Besides the Cambridge English exam, Nacel English School also prepares students for the IELTS. IELTS is the world’s most popular exam for entering higher education. Educational institutions, employers and government immigration agencies require proof of English language skills as part of their recruitment or admission procedures. Increasingly, these organisations are choosing IELTS.
There are two different IELTS modules: General Training and Academic. The General Training format focuses on testing general survival skills in broad social and workplace contexts. It is typically for those who are going to English-speaking countries to do secondary education, work experience or training programmes. The Academic format is for those students wishing to study or train in an English-speaking university or institute of Higher and Further Education. Admission to undergraduate and postgraduate courses is based on the results of the Academic IELTS test.
IELTS is a multi-level exam. There is no pass or fail, but students receive a score out of 9. The majority of UK universities require a score between bands 5.5 and 7.5, which equate to upper intermediate to high advanced level. The test is valid for 2 years.
In addition to our preparation courses to the Cambridge English exam, we also offer specific courses to prepare for Business English Certificates. These certificates are widely-recognised qualifications, thus helping candidates into employment in business and commerce, or improving their professional status. The qualifications are especially designed to give you practical skills to help you succeed in English-speaking international business environments.
There are three different exams, Preliminary, Vantage and Higher, at CEFR levels B1, B2 and C1 respectively. While they require no previous knowledge of business, those exams will test your business-related language. Because the examinations are based on authentic texts and realistic tasks, success in them will be an important asset for anyone who wants to work in international business. It will therefore indicate sufficient ability in English to be of practical use in clerical, secretarial and managerial jobs in many industries.
The qualification recognises the ability to communicate with confidence in business English. Successful candidates will have the ability to deal with anything from routine letters and telephone enquiries to using the language in practical situations, such as in meetings and discussions. It also proves that they can express opinions clearly, and be able to understand and produce texts of various types, including business letters and reports.
