Easy books to read in English – level A1

Before you start reading in English, it is recommended to follow the following list of tips, as it will help you to choose the best book and you will be able to learn more easily.

1. Try to read at an appropriate level. Read something you can (more or less) understand. If you have to stop every three words to look in the dictionary, you won’t be interested and will soon become discouraged.
2. Write down the new vocabulary. If you find some new words on a page, write them in your vocabulary book. But you don’t have to write them down as you read. Instead, try to guess their meaning as you read; mark them with a pen; then come back when you have finished reading to check them in a dictionary and add them to your vocabulary book.
3. Try to read regularly. For example, read for a period of time once a day. Fifteen minutes every day is better than two hours every Sunday. Set a reading time and try to stick to it. For example, you can read for fifteen minutes when you go to bed, or when you get up, or at lunchtime.
4. Get organized. Have everything ready: something to read, a marker to underline difficult words, a dictionary, your vocabulary book, a pen to write down new words, choose a magazine or a book on a topic you like.
5. Read something that interests you.
